This year, they lost Terron Armstead and Marcus Williams. In 2021, they lost Trey Hendrickson, Janoris Jenkins, and Sheldon Rankins. But what about the Saints? They basically did the same thing for years. The Rams were able to have success, so it's all worth it. They'll probably have to make other changes to keep any of those players, or else, let them walk. Their 2023 free agents include Taylor Rapp, A'Shawn Robinson, Rob Havenstein, Troy Hill, and other starters/significant contributors. So let's say they're projected $10-15m under the 2023 cap. But they're getting ready to redo Aaron Donald's deal, which will probably reduce his 2022 cap hit and give them some in-season flexibility, but also will probably increase his 2023 cap hit. Right now, they have 40-50 players projected to be under contract in 2023, if you count their 2022 draft picks. We only talk about how they signed Wagner and Allen Robinson, but no mention of the good players that had to go to make room. They're technically over the cap right now, but with the Top 51 rule they're about $9m under, and that's before we count the Bobby Wagner deal. They'll probably lose Odell, Sony Michel, and their backup QB. The Rams just lost Von Miller, Robert Woods (with a $12m cap penalty in 2022), Darious Williams, Austin Corbett, Sebastian Joseph, Troy Reeder, and Johnny Hekker, all starters/significant contributors. When will the consequences start for the Rams?īut there are consequences. Irsay may act publicly like he's mad and wants to win now, but his lack of activity in FA tell the real story.Ĭan you elaborate? I used to believe there were consequences to signing a bunch of high-priced players, but the Rams have shown everyone that the salary cap can be manipulated with few consequences. Just The lack of resources spent on WR's & TE's tell you that. The salary cap has nothing to do with the colts.they are a team that is on the cheap side/thrifty and not eager to field a strong SB contending team. If & when their turn comes, they will do what's necessary to be a contender and revitalize the fan base, which of course produces a bit more revenue to the liking of the other 31 teams. Teams that are passive and not serious about winning won't usually spend their owners money because why should they, their not winning anyway? Teams that are aggressively trying to put a championship or contender product on the field can manipulate contracts, signing bonuses, etc. I honestly don't see why we can't get a player like Landry if all chips are i I am basically saying what many are thinking and want to say. If they can do it then we should be able do it. They are still a top 5 in the league with Brady at QB. That is why I created this thread, those teams do it every year, Bucs did it in 2020 (they won the SB) and it still hasn't caught up to them.
